Reindeer Sledding
Sami Travel Guides offers Reindeer sledding at winter time and reindeer hiking at summer time; we mainly use our well trained reindeers as transportation both summer and winter.
One day Reindeer sledding
The Samis used reindeers as transportation in the Arctic mountains for centuries and we offer this activity for you. You will learn how to capture the reindeer with a lasso, how to handle and master it, and at last you will try to ride it in the Arctic forest. If you don´t like to ride it alone our guides will sit on the sleigh and help you all the way around the premade track. Reindeer sledding is fun, we all agree on that. We will sit in the Sami tent and our guide will tell you stories from Sami Culture, teach you how to use the Sami drum, have a yoik session (traditional Sami song) and we will drink coffee that is boiled on open fire. This makes the Reindeer sledding day complete. This activity is very popular and it suites everybody.
Four days Reindeer sledding
In four days we shall learn how to professionally catch a reindeer, how to train it, how to learn it to pull sled and how to steer the reindeer while reindeer sledding. You will participate through all the process of taming a reindeer for professional usage and you will also ride the reindeer before you leave. This is an amazing experience to be able to tame the reindeer you are sledding with. This is the four days activities:
Day one: Learn how to catch a reindeer with a lasso, but actually we catch the reindeer every day with a lasso.
Day two: Learn how to calm the reindeer down, how to learn it to follow you and how to master the reindeer.
Day three: Learn the reindeer to pull a sled and stay calm, this is important before Reindeer sledding.
Day four: Reindeer sledding with your own trained reindeer, an experience and vacation to remember.
We will serve coffee and lunch daily, plus breakfast, dinner and evening food for guests staying at us. The work days will be about 6 hours, including daily entertainment in the lavvo.
