Our adventures
Sami Travel Guides guided adventures in Northern Norway are relaxing and recharing vacation options for people who search ultimate exploration trip into the Arctic of Scandinavia. Our Sami guides are English speaking and use all their knowledge to make your adventure comfortable and relaxing. The adventures are based on old Sami Culture knowledge of Sapmi, a cultural competence of Europes oldest living culture with strong traditions. The Samis are a people of nature and they will let you see the nature through their eyes, by teaching you, letting you participate, learning you to master the Sami lifestyle and knowledge. The Sami Travel Guides adventures do not require any skills or knowledge from the travellers, an empty cup is easier to fill than one that is full. The adventures are normally not physical demanding and suites well for families with children.
The arctic winter is mighty and beautiful, but is requires that participants have suited equipment to keep the cold out. Normally it´s best if you have your own outdoor clothing that you are comfortable with, but we can also offer clothes that are warm and suited for the arctic climate.
Our Company
We have been serving guests from all over the world with Sami Cultural activities since 2009 and we have our main focus on making the adventure relaxing expedition for you in breath taking nature. The guides from Sami Travel Guides have been in tourism industry for 60 years and in 3 generations. We are a guiding company with outdoor activities, but we have partnerships that makes it possible to order transport, hotel and food through us.
The place
I North Norway where the three tribes meet there is a place called Nordreisa. Nordreisa is surroundedd by thousand meter high arctic mountains, beautiful fjords and deep valleys. In the county we have 40 000 reindeers at summer time. This is Sami Travel Guides location.
The summers in Nordreisa are warm and it never gets dark. We have 24 hour light and a beutiful midnightsun experience. Fishing is one of the most common activities in Nordreisa and we take our visitors into the arctic mountains to fish Arctic char. We have reindeers that carry our equipment, making it possible to walk long distances per day. When it´s salmon season we also fish for salmon in one of the most impressive rivers in Norway, the Reisa river. For guests who want to go deep sea fishing we can also offer fishing from boat on the open arctic sea, where the world record cod is caught.
The arctic winter in Nordreisa is a total difference from the summer. The daylight is short, but at the evenings we have the mighty Northern Light (aurora borealis) shining for us. At winter time snowmobile riding and Reindeer sledding is one of the most popular activities. We take our guests into the arctic mountain plateau with snowmobiles and fish for arctic char on popular fresh water lake. We also offer Reindeer sledding for guests, both long trips and short trips, for families and individuals.
There are breathtaking contrasts between winter and summer seasons.
Accommodation
We have three different accommodations for you. We offer accommodation in a Sami tent (lavvu) with open fire on a comfortable reindeer skin or in a modern camp tent with paraffin stove and small bed. This kind of accommodation makes the arctic experience full of impressions and the let´s you feel the Sami lifestyle on closer. We also offer rooms in two modern hotels, one that is close to our camp and has older style and one that is located 30km from our camp. They are both good choices, but have different styles. What kind of accommodation or room do you prefer is up to you, we will off course recommend the Sami accommodation to make your relaxing vacation complete.
